OMF assists with youth hostels (residences) for Shan children who move from their villages to study at the provincial high school. Hostel work is an important part of OMF’s strategy for Shan Church planting, and provides the platform to expose young people to the word of God. In addition to providing an opportunity to reach out to parents and relatives, they also create opportunities to train national workers as hostel parents, evangelists and teachers, and caretakers for the property. Hostels are presently functioning in rented facilities. Property has been purchased for construction for both a church and hostel building. The project represents an important strategic foothold as these youth move beyond their tribal surroundings.
